Part 3 Execution
SUBSTRATE SURFACE CONDITIONS ARE CRITICAL TO SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION OF MARMORINO VENETIAN PLASTER.
COORIDINATE WITH OTHER SECTIONS TO PROVIDE SUBSTRATES TRUE TO PLANE WITHIN 1/8 INCH (3 MM) IN 10 FEET (3 M) IN ANY DIRECTION AND TO WITHIN 1/16 INCH (1.6 MM) IN 10 FEET (3 M) IN CRITICAL LIGHTING AREAS.
COORDINATE WITH APPROPRIATE SUBSTRATE SECTION FOR PREPARATION OF SURFACES TO ENSURE THAT HOLES AND CRACKS ARE PATCHED AND THAT JOINTS, FORM LINES, AND OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ARE SMOOTH.
GYPSUM BOARD SURFACES SHOULD BE FINISHED TO MINIMUM “LEVEL 4,” AND TO “LEVEL 5” IN CRITICAL LIGHTING AREAS (SEE GYPSUM ASSOCIATION PUBLICATION GA-214).
COORDINATE WITH PAITING SECTION TO APPLY TO HIGH QUALITY WATER BASED PRIMER TO ALL SUBSTRATES SCHEDULED TO RECEIVE MARMORINO VENETIAN PLASTER.
FERROUS SURFACES SHOULD BE PRE-PRIMED WITH A RUST-INHIBITIVE PRIMER.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES SHOULD BE WASHED WITH SOAP AND WATER, SANDED LIGHTLY, THEN PRIMED.
3.01 Examination
- Examine substrates upon which marmorino venetian plaster will be applied.
- Verify that substrate surfaces are true to plane within 1/8 inch (3 mm) in 10 feet (3 m) in any direction and to within 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) in 10 feet (3 m) in critical lighting areas.
- Verify that substrate surfaces have been primed with water-based primer and are acceptable for application of marmorino venetian plaster.
- Coordinate with responsible entity to perform corrective work on unsatisfactory substrates.
- Commencement of work by applicator is acceptance of substrate.
3.02 Preparation
- Protection: Protect adjacent finished surfaces from contact with materials of this section.
- Surface Preparation: Clean surfaces of dust and other contaminants.
3.03 Application
- Apply marmorino venetian plaster in three phases in accordance with manufacturer's instructions to an approximate total thickness of 60 mils (1.5 mm).
- Apply protection paste in accordance with marmorino venetian plaster manufacturer's instructions.
3.04 Cleaning
- Reference Section 01740-Cleaning.
