Era Veneziana
Decorative lime-based "Stucco Antico" Finish for interiors and exteriors
General Features
ERA VENEZIANA is a lime based, glossy "Stucco Antico" finishing coat formulated in the whole respect of traditional and historical "recipes" and therefore contains well seasoned hydrated lime putty, fine marble powder, coloring oxides and earths, linseed oil and rheologic modifiers, which guarantee a perfect workability of the product.
Together with Antiche Patine natural coloring pigments mixed with Lattedicalce lime milk ERA VENEZIANA originates soft, colored and, if required, semi-transparent glazes imitating the typical features of our Renaissance tradition.
The high alkalinity degree typical of lime and a good permeability rate make of ERA VENEZIANA a perfect natural anti-mould agent.
Effects and Techniques
Stucco Antico Veneziano or "Venetian" - This effect produces marbling effects with soft and vibrant shades. Due to the high workability of Era Veneziana a variety of marbling effects and techniques are possible.
Encausto Mantovano or "Encausto" - This effect is applied in one single thin coat over lime plasters such as MARMUR Medium and COCCIOPESTO and smoothed down with a sponge float.
Texture
Completely glossy or velvet-satin, depending on the technique used to work the product.
Uses
Era Veneziana is a decorative finishing coat for extremely prestigious interior or exterior walls.
Natural lime plasters represent ERA VENEZIANA's most suitable substrate, since the product reacts chemically with them, building up a unique "body" able to preserve this lime coating for a longer period of time.
Following the correct instructions about surface preparation ERA VENEZIANA may also be applied over:
- Lime and Cement Mortars
- Premixed renderings
- Pre-existing lime and gypsum plasters
- Moisture-permeable plasters
- Gypsum plasterboard
Substrate Preparation
The substrate must be perfectly dry, dust-free, with no humidity and salts stains.
New natural lime plasters: the substrate should "mature" for a period of minimum 20 days; then apply ERA VENEZIANA directly on the wall, which has been previously thoroughly wet with water, in case of windy and extremely hot weather. If necessary, apply a previous coat of MARMORINO, lime-based putty.
New or recent lime and cement mortars, premixed renderings, gypsum and plaster boards: apply one priming coat of MARMUR Fine (lime plaster coat), mixed 1:1 with IsoSil (siloxane clear sealer) and 4/5 parts of clean water. ERA VENEZIANA may be applied after 4/6 hours.
Pre-existing chalking lime plasters: remove damaged and peeling areas with an adequate tool or high-pressure washing; apply one priming coat consisting of MARMUR Fine mixed 1:1 with IsoSil (siloxane clear sealer) and 4-5 parts of clean water. Let dry a few hours then smooth the wall with one coat of MARMUR, if necessary. Wait at least 4-6 hours prior to the application of ERA VENEZIANA Stucco finish.
Old synthetic paints and plasters: remove the synthetic finishing coat with a paint remover containing no paraffin. Wash the substrate by means of a high-pressure washing and prepare it according to its nature and following the instructions above.
Application Procedure and Recommendation
ERA VENEZIANA is ready for use and therefore does not require any water dilution. For applications over exterior facades make sure you have an adequate number of decorators applying the product, in order to avoid any unaesthetic joint. Work in the shade and avoid direct sun light.
Apply the first thin coat with an inox trowel trying to level the wall. If required, apply one coat of MARMORINO, lime-based putty. When this first coat is completely dry, i.e. after few hours, do apply the second coat, always using a stainless steel trowel and making sure the thickness of the material you're putting on the wall is extremely thin. When the product starts to "set" polish the wall with the inox trowel used above. The more polishing with the trowel the glossier the finish. Typical "Stucco Antico Veneziano" effects may easily be achieved by using a small, triangular inox trowel to apply the second coat, instead of the bigger American trowel. One single coat of ERA VENEZIANA over MARMUR Medium (lime plaster coat) or COCCIOPESTO (lime plaster coat) will originate the so called "Encausto Mantovano" effect, which is actually achieved by polishing with an inox trowel this single layer of ERA VENEZIANA when the product has just started to "set".
Stain effects, patinas or transparent glazes maybe easily reproduced with Antiche Patine mixed with Lattedicalce and applied over ERA VENEZIANA, with any tool at least 12 hours after the second final coat has been applied. For additional surface protection apply one coat of CERA - DECOWAX, to increase the ability to wash the product.
Do not apply with rainy weather or with air or substrate temperature below 5° C.
Protect the facades from rain, at least along the first 48 hours, i.e. until lime has finished to set and started to get hard.
